A Day In The Life (How Original)

So yesterday I had a photoshoot with one of my favorite clients, Leah! Leah is a very special young lady and if you haven't already read her story and liked her page, you should go do that! Link:

So the task that was set up for us was to expand her modeling portfolio and come up with some unique photoshoot ideas to switch things up a bit. Then I had the idea to write this blog post.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF TERRANOVA PHOTOGRAPHY
Again, I know you're probably thinking how unoriginal that title is, but whatever. You'll keep reading and deal with it. :D
So backing up a few weeks ago, Leah's mom asked me to start thinking of some ideas for different types of photoshoots. We collaborated and came up with a few different things. Leah. Loves. Fruit Loops. So we decided to do a photoshoot with some fruit loops! Another thing Leah loves is her stuffed animals and dolls. So we had the idea of a stuffed animal shoot! WE WERE SO EXCITED!
Then the next few weeks/days were spent on Pinterest, coming up with new ideas on how to pose, how to do make up and what outfits to wear. This was going to be something neither of us had done before.
So now we had the concepts, now how do we execute? The 6 P's of course! Growing up my father ALWAYS told me and my siblings: "Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance." Something I've always lived by even to this day. So we planned the ideas, Leah was in charge of her outfits and her fruit loops (and she already had all the stuffed animals she needed!) So now we just show up, right?
No.
It's almost like a ritual on the day of a photoshoot for me. I could be the only one, I could be one of many. So the night before, I have to make sure to put my camera battery on the charger. CAN. NOT. FORGET. Turns out the number one thing you need during a photo session is your camera..and it has to work..who knew, right?!
So I wake up, check the battery. It's charged. Then I move to my memory cards (I have 3 with me at all times) to make sure they are cleared and ready to use. I will say, I have never had to use all three in one session, but it never hurts to have a backup plan. (6 P's!!) So then I'll do a couple test shots. JUST IN CASE. Then I'll realize the lens cap is still on after my mini heart attack of "WHY IS IT BLANK?!" uhhh..cause the cap is still on...real professional Sheana...
So then I move to my camera bag. Check for all my lenses, check for backup battery, check for backup memory cards, external flash, and all my other odds and ends that I could possibly need..you know..JUST IN CASE!! So now I'm ready to go, right? Guess again..I forgot to brush my teeth..Just kidding! But I do need to plan what I'm going to wear. I usually like to try and wear something darker so that I don't stand out/if there happens to be a reflection anywhere I can take it out/not be noticed. Then I usually put my hair in a pony tail so that my hair doesn't get in the way of my camera! (it happens more than you'd think..especially on a windy day.)
So NOW I'm ready to go! I grab my bag and any other prop I happened to find at Hobby Lobby..ahem..and get in the car and go. I always try and be early so if we plan on noon, I'll be there at 11:45..usually..unless I break down..which seems to happen frequently these days. So I get to where I'm going, snap some pictures, and then I anxiously drive home to see what I got! I can look at my camera all I want and be like "oh my gosh that was such a good one" but I won't actually have a good idea of what it looks like until I get it home on my computer. So then I start. Unless it's like midnight..then I'll dream of editing, wake up and edit. :) I'll pick a few to post on my page (with permission of course) and send a sneak peak to the client. Then I'll spend the next few days working on the pictures. Sometimes it takes less time, but I like to take my time and make them perfect! Upload the pictures to Dropbox, send them to the client, DONE!
So there you have it. A day in the life. how fascinating. I'm sure you're like "wow you just wasted an entire 30 minutes of my life." Don't lie..you enjoyed it. NOW ENJOY THESE PICTURES OF LEAH :)
